Intelliterp is Interpreting Solutions’ own Video Relay Service (VRS) and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI). It offers deaf users equality by enabling them to make telephone calls with support from our team of fully qualified sign language interpreters. Via this service, D/deaf and hard of hearing users are able to make phone calls via a laptop, tablet or smartphone using British Sign Language.

For deaf people whose primary language is British Sign Language (BSL) and not English, VRS provides a tool for communicating with hearing people. VRS is a form of telecommunication that allows deaf people to access a telephone system designed only for the hearing population. It allows them to use BSL instead of English to liaise with customer service representatives over a conventional telephone line.

We understand that even considering to provide a BSL interpreter is an expensive proposition, however, with our competitive pricing and the ability to pay for only what you use, we ensure you and your business can feel relaxed about enabling access to new markets, customers and improving access to the D/deaf and hard of hearing community.

The service allows UK based service providers and customer facing companies to meet their responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, as well as improving access to goods, services and facilities to individuals from the hardest to reach communities.

Video Relay Service has proved invaluable to businesses and received excellent feedback from many individuals including from Ed Vaizey, the Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy, who has spent years encouraging phone companies to take action on video relay for deaf people:

“I would strongly encourage all businesses to adopt video relay in order to improve the accessibility for Deaf people.”
